Time to see what my soil is really made of.
I did my test with a "Ferry Morse" at home Soil Test kit.
The first test I did was the PH (because this is the one I was worried about most.) So, I dug 4 inches into the ground that I am thinking about using later as a garden. I put enough soil (ok more like clay) into my first tube (so it reached the first line in the tube.)
After that I added the powder into the tube.

The I added the rest of the water that it called for. Then gave it a good shaking for the next minute!

Then I went on to do the rest of the test (you'll see the results at the bottom of all of this.)

What I am going to be testing below is the "Plant Food" (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potash.)

To do the other test you have to get a jar and add 1 part soil and 5 parts water (I used the same spot I was digging at before because the soil you are testing needs to be at 4 inches deep.) Shake it up for one minute and then let sit for 10 minutes.

Then you take each tube and add enough of the water (from your dirt and water mixed jar) to go to the 4th mark on your tube. Then add the stuff in the pill into each tube that matches (like Pink pill goes with the tube with a pink lid, blue goes with blue, and brown with brown) Shake each one for one minute and then let sit for 10 minutes.
Here are the results.
PH- test results
As you can see we have some acid in our soil. I do not believe it's near the 2-3 PH level by the test results I am showing you here. This test only shows 5-8 but the good thing is that I believe we are ok (acid, yes but not as bad as I was thinking.)
Here are the other results for Plant food-
Nitrogen (the pink one)- is Very Low
Phosphorous (the blue one)- is Very Low
Potash (the brown one)- is Medium!
I am no Master gardener but I think I need to bring my horses home (and about 20 others..lol) to help this soil out. Now that I know a little more about my soil I can figure out a plan on how to adjust it more.
This is the first time I have done an at home test like this. The nice thing about these kits is that on the back of the instructions it tells you how much of whatever it is you need to add to your soil to adjust it.

Isn't he cute! Today we went to the Home Depot here in Pell City, Alabama. They had a children's "build a class" going on and the kids wanted to do it.
While we were there one of the ladies had one of her mini horse dressed up. Of, course we had to go over and see him too. Once I got talking with her I found out that she also has Great Pyrenees! She said they were great protection for her Alpaca's and mini horses.

Today's class at Home Depot was to build their Home Depot race car. The kids enjoyed doing it. For those of you who do not know these classes are for free (they do them once a month.)

Loom knitting-
I am not forgetting about my loom knitting readers here. I am going to release some free patterns for you to see soon (ok, not real soon but I am working on it.)

Since Spring is coming and some of you may not have seen my spring chicken/duck before you may click here to see that pattern.
