Free Pattern today!
I believe you should be able to click on Santa to see a bigger picture. I think so at least..lol

Ready for the hoildays? Well let me get you in the mood with a free pattern.

For this hat I used two looms Green loom (from The attic Flexloom) and the blue KK (Knifty Knitter loom.)
Yarns that I decided to use where
Red Heart Super Saver Sans Lot
7 oz. 198 g
Color- 0313 Aran
*For his face and nose.
Patons Cha Cha
Net weigh 1.34 oz.
Color Ca00111 Waltz (white)
*For the brim and pom pom's.

Sensations "Beautiful"
1.34 oz.
Color p-01 (off white)
*for face hair

Sensations "Simple Elegance Collection"
1.34 oz.
Masquerade Red color number #29
*For all the red parts in this project (hat and scarf)

I also used Darice animal eyes 12mm *but I think bigger ones would look better when the hat is on someones head. You can buy google eyes or whatever kind you'd like to use (glue them on or you can use the screw type that I bought and shave off the backs.)

For your main hat-
Use the Sensations "Simple Elegance Collection" yarn (Masquerade red yarn) for the brim.
Rows 1-32 Flat stitch and bring brim up.

Now change your yarn color for the face. (Red Heart Super Saver color 0313 Aran. which is an off white. If, you want to do a Santa with darker skin color just find a yarn to match the color you want to use.)
Rows 33-70 Flat Stitch
Gather off.

Mini hat-
Blue Loom (KK)
Use the Sensations Simple Elegeance Collection yarn again.
Rows 1-42 Flat stitch.
Gather off.

Make a pom pom (click here to see how I make mine.)
Use Patons Cha Cha Yarn
I wrapped 3 fingers about 75 times and put a square knot in. Trimmed it up and attached it to the hat.

Mini Scarf-
This goes on the brim of the hat to make it look like a scarf for Santa.
Make an i-cord on 3 pegs. I did this for 16 rows.
Mini- pom pom's for scarf. Wrap 2 fingers about 50 times. Tie knot and trim up. Then attach to scarf.

Santa's brim-
Make an i-cord with Patons Cha Cha Yarn (white.) Just make it long enough to go around the hat. It will have some stretch to it because of the type of yarn it is.

Santa's Nose-
Use the same yarn that you used for Santa's face (Red Heart Super Saver- off white.) Make a small i-cord. I did my i-cord for 8 rows. Once you take off the loom put the ends together and sew it onto the face.

Finishing-
Add your eyes! Glue on or otherwise ( I used 12 mm but I think bigger would be best because the hat stretches and Santa ends up with smaller eyes if you don't...lol..) I did use a screw on type of eyes and I really like those but you need to take the backs of those off. I think Google eyes would work just fine for this project.

Santa's face hair-
I just love this Sensations "Beautiful" (color is off white) for this part, add this just like you would add fringe to a project but instead of at the end of a project in the middle of it (where his face hair would be.) I always tie a little knot in each and every one that I add. With this yarn it hides the knots pretty well.

**If, you have any questions on my pattern you can either e-mail me or leave a comment. I can't say how fast I'll get to it because I will not be home for a while. I will return all e-mails once we do get back tho.
My scarf is getting around!

I made this little scarf a while ago and craft magazine published it in their November issue (this is one of those secrets that I wanted to share with you all a while back but couldn't until now. I can't wait to tell you about the other secrets but those will have to wait a little longer.) Not only that but I sent this scarf to Craft and it's been traveling! That's right it went to the Make Fair down in Texas! I think that is so very cool. So, if you have this month's issue of Craft it's on page 111!

Christmas Cactus-
I just love these things. I wanted to see if I can take a cutting from my plant and make another one. So, I took a little part off of it (about 3 months ago..lol..) and sat it into a little glass of water (with some plastic around the cup so only the bottom part of the cutting would get water on it but not the whole cutting. Just so it didn't rot.) I changed the water every once and a while and it didn't look like it was doing much UNTIL this last month! I have roots growing! So, now it's time to plant this little guy.
Book recommendation-
I just got my hands on a Reader's Digest (1981) Back To Basics- How to lean and enjoy Traditional American Skills. I love this book. I recommend this book for homesteaders, hobbyist, and anyone else that can read..lol.. It's really a neat book. You'll find things such as Buying land and building on it, Energy from nature, Raising your own food (livestock and gardens. Also a section on KEFIR), Enjoy your harvest, skills and crafts for your homestead (which has a really nice part on braiding rugs!), and Recreation at Home and in the wild!
****The next couple of weeks it will be hit or miss on me being here at home. So, if you do send e-mails it may take me awhile once again to get to them. Sooner or later things will return to normal here but until then if I don't reply to e-mails fast there is a reason why.
Well I better get off this computer I have some packages to mail out today.
