Ok, with winter coming and hay not being that great (don't worry I have enough hay in but I am sure it doesn't have the same nutrient levels that it did last year) I am going to make some sprouts.
I seen a post about sprouting things on one of my groups (it made me think of two issues back of Farm Show where someone was sharing how he grew sprouts for his chickens when he was younger. I dogie eared that in farm show but haven't had time to go back to it just yet. Now, I am going to.)
I looked around the house to see what seeds I have on hand. I had pumpkin of course (which I will use the pumpkin more as a soak then a sprout) and some sun flowers. I figured what the heck I'll just do it as soaked seeds this time (some of you may already know but for those of you whom don't pumpkin seeds have been said to help remove worms which for farm animals is a very good thing.)
I grabbed a mason jar and one of those tops that I made for them (click here to find how to make it.) I took the coffee filter off of it and put the seeds inside of it (because pumpkin seeds and sun flower both) are so big there was no way they were going to come out. Then I rinsed them out. To see how well the lid worked just watch the video below.
**Here is a good article on sprouting for your livestock (chickens on this one.)
Off, to work I go. I'll be back posting in a few days.
