Product Review today and more about Kumihimo braiding.
I thought I would tell you a little more about this little disk that I bought. It's pretty neat really.
You can make one (easy to do) or you can buy one. The one I bought was cheap enough that it wasn't going to break the bank so to speak and I wasn't sure if I wanted to bother Jon when he already has a honey to do list a mile long.. Now, that I know I like it he has one more thing to add to his list because I want the holes to be wider so I can use my fat Angora wool that I spin on it without worrying about fraying it (not that this disk did that but I would like one just for my Angora wool.)
For the price tho, its really worth buying and the service I got was WONDERFUL and FAST! I will for sure be buying more from this company in the future. Not only that but you get some extras with you disk (instructions and the little things that hold your yarn, which I loved!)
I will have my husband make me a wooden one that I will share pictures with you all on how he did it later on. I want a bigger one built more like a stand.
Ok, lets get to the pictures and more detail..
I used two different colors of Lion Suede yarn (a light tan and dark tan color. Thank-you Amy Reynolds for sending me that yarn! I love it.)
I used two different colors of Lion Suede yarn (a light tan and dark tan color. Thank-you Amy Reynolds for sending me that yarn! I love it.)I wanted to make Bri just something simple to show this disk off. So, I took the yarn around her wrist and doubled that and added just a little extra so I could tie it when it needed to be (just enough to make a knot. I cut 4 of the light color and 4 of the darker.)
Then I wrapped the yarn around these little things (Another great reason to buy the disk because this comes with it. They are called E-Z Bobs. I LOVE them. After you wrap the yarn around you just push the little plastic down and it closes it so it doesn't come undone! How NEAT!) Then I loaded up my disk. I put in them twos. Two light, then two dark, then two light, and then two dark again.
I had to tie the yarn that came through the middle hole of the disk (it goes down in the hole and this is where your work will come out of the disk) together (this kept it altogether.) All I did was take one thread and wrap it around and then put it inside the circle I made around the other yarn and then I pulled it inside itself to make a knot. Nothing fancy but I am a simple girl (the picture below you can kind of see how I tied it around itself. I can show it better later.)
Then I went to braiding it. I wanted just a simple round braid so that's what I did. If, you would like to see me playing around with it just Click here.
Below you can see more of what the braid looked like (I know in the video it was hard to tell so I took an extra picture to show you.)
I was wondering if I got stopped in the middle of working on how I would know where I stopped at. Well click here and you can see for yourself (the video isn't the greatest because of low light. So, I took a picture below to show it better. You can see the DARKER yarn is on top of the LIGHTER yarn so that means I was last working my Darker yarn and now need to begin with the lighter one.)

Once I got to the length I wanted it to be I did the same thing that I did in the beginning. I took one strand of the yarn and wrapped it around the others and tied it off. Then I cut the extra off!

My over all thoughts about this is pretty positive. I love how easy it is and the things you could make are just endless.
I also liked the company that I bought this disk from and will do more business with them in the future. Click here and you will be forward to their site.
